#Jamuary2022 – 03 – Journey – Continuing with waiting for something to randomly spark my imagination each day. Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Streets of Philadelphia’ popped up on my Spotify. I thought I could nick the drum machine intro and make a loop (naughty I know). The plight of the songs character made me think of others who have found themselves in desperate situations. I thought of a documentary I saw recently that particularly moved me. I sometimes take stills or short clips off the TV (with my phone) for inspiration and I hunted for that picture on my phone and went from there with these two ‘found’ objects. I don’t want to explain the picture any further but you may well gather the terrible times it relates to.

This was a bit of a pig technically, mainly down to my ignorance I guess. I got the idea of having MS Word read out the words from hearing my daughter checking a document that way. I use VB-Audio Virtual Cable software on my laptop to record from anything on the laptop into anything else also on the laptop. For some reason the results where not good in Audacity or Ableton (it was chopping very small bits out on the start of lines) but it worked fine in Reaper. So I swapped to Reaper for this one and I must say I find the basics of recording more to my way of thinking in Reaper. But I do find Ableton better on the sound designing front.

Anyway, day three done and it did take some time which I know is because I’m really learning the ropes as I go along. I hope that doing this challenge will help speed me up. Onwards and upwards.
