This unit, like many other Blueair purifiers has been given the Energy Star Award for meeting strict energy standards.

To help alleviate problems with allergies, most doctors recommend an air purifier that utilizes HEPA filtration. All Blueair units use specially designed HEPA media that captures 99.97% of harmful particles such as pet dander, mold spores, dust, pollen, and other allergens down to 0.3 microns, while still allowing air to travel through the filter at much higher rates than their competitors. This is possible because of ion plates used inside the machine. After air is drawn in through the bottom of the 103 by the ultra-quite fan, particles in the air are negatively charged by the ion plates. These charged particles are better attracted to the filter where they become entangled in the media. Blueair recommends that the filter on the 103 be changed at minimum once a year.

The Blueair 103 has two speed settings to suit your needs. For quick initial cleanings of rooms, or for very polluted air it is recommended that the high setting be used. For everyday use, or use at night, the low setting is recommended.
